The Soma Laboratory Pulsar-23 Orange used is an out-of-the-box semi-modular drum machine designed by Vlad Kreimer for musicians, sound designers and performers looking for an instrument capable of generating organic rhythms, experimental textures and unpredictable soundscapes.

Much more than a simple analog drum machine, the Pulsar-23 combines modular synthesis, live performance and circuit bending into a single desktop instrument with a radical and instantly recognizable character.

Soma Laboratory Pulsar-23 Orange: semi-modular analog drum machine

The Pulsar-23 uses a semi-modular structure consisting of 23 independent modules that can be interconnected freely via patch pins and CV control. The four analog channels dedicated to kick, bass/percussion, snare and cymbal/hi-hat offer a huge variety of timbres, from classic analog percussion to drones, industrial noises and abstract soundscapes.

Each channel includes an envelope generator with sustain that allows rhythmic sounds to be transformed into true noise synthesizers and continuous textures.

Independent loop recorder and advanced rhythm synthesis

One of the most innovative elements of the Soma Laboratory Pulsar-23 is the trigger recording system. The four independent loop recorders record trigger events instead of audio, allowing extremely creative manipulation of rhythmic sequences.

The clock generator with built-in dividers makes it possible to create complex polyrhythmic patterns, ideal for experimental electronic music, techno, ambient and live modular performance.

Shaos generator and unpredictable modulations

The famous "Shaos" module represents the most experimental heart of the Pulsar-23. This pseudo-random generator produces four independent outputs capable of introducing organic variations, controlled instability and chaotic modulations within patches.

With the ability to use body conductivity to create connections and modulations, Pulsar-23 offers a unique performative approach close to circuit bending and experimental analog synthesis.

Soma Pulsar-23 used ideal for modular Eurorack setups

The used Soma Laboratory Pulsar-23 Orange can be used standalone or integrated into modular setups via MIDI and CV control. The many patch points and advanced routing possibilities make it perfect as a creative center for Eurorack systems, desktop synthesizers and live electronic performances.

The built-in effects section includes distortion and CV-controllable FX processor, further expanding the instrument's sonic possibilities.

Experimental drum machine for live and sound design

With its open architecture, strong performance component, and "organismic" sound philosophy, the Pulsar-23 is an ideal instrument for producers, sound designers, and electronic artists who wish to push the limits of traditional drum machines.
