NUGEN Audio MasterCheck 2 + ISL 2ST is a bundle designed for mastering and level control for distribution on physical, digital, and streaming platforms. It combines MasterCheck 2—dedicated to preemptive verification of loudness normalization and codec compatibility—with ISL 2ST, a transparent look-ahead limiter for managing True Peaks. This combination allows you to assess how the master might be altered during distribution and to proactively monitor peaks that could cause distortion during subsequent conversions.
MasterCheck 2 allows you to verify how a master will behave when it reaches the listener across different platforms and distribution systems. The plug-in lets you preview the effect of loudness normalization and assess the impact of codecs, while providing professional measurements of loudness and True Peaks. The goal is to find an effective balance between perceived loudness and dynamics, anticipating any artifacts introduced during subsequent encoding stages.
MasterCheck 2 allows you to preview the effects of data compression and loudness normalization used by various distribution platforms. Using Codec Mode and the Offset to Match feature, you can perform comparisons tailored to services such as Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, YouTube, SoundCloud, Bandcamp, Qobuz, and Pandora, as well as other platforms. This allows you to evaluate how the master will perform before release and make adjustments during the production process.
MasterCheck 2 provides references for Integrated Loudness, PLR, PSR, and True Peak—parameters that are useful not only during mastering but also during the mixing phase. Monitoring these values during production allows you to identify mixes that are overly compressed or have excessively high levels before reaching the final mastering stage. MasterCheck can also be used as a comparison tool to evaluate the balance between perceived level increase and dynamic range preservation.
MasterCheck 2 supports up to 7.1.4 channels, allowing you to import a Dolby Atmos mix and work with other surround, immersive, and 3D configurations compatible with this number of channels. The resizable interface can be used in both portrait and landscape orientations, making it easy to integrate the meter into different DAW setups and screen layouts.
NUGEN Audio ISL 2ST is a look-ahead limiter designed to automatically manage True Peak compliance while maintaining transparent processing. The plug-in uses standardized True Peak algorithms based on ITU-R BS.1770 and related standards, including Apple’s afclip True Peak detection. These features make it suitable for signal monitoring in music mastering, post-production, and broadcast applications.
True Peak limiting allows you to control peaks that could cause problems in subsequent distribution stages. ISL 2ST can be used on the master bus to reduce the risk that conversions via codecs such as MP3 and AAC will introduce distortion due to the reconstruction of inter-sample peaks.
Unlike a traditional limiter, the ISL features the TPlim control, which automatically adjusts the transfer curve parameters to achieve minimally invasive brick-wall protection. The Auto-Release function analyzes the input signal and its low-frequency content, dynamically adapting the release behavior to reduce the likelihood of distortion and maintain greater transparency even in the most demanding situations.
ISL includes dedicated steering and ducking meters that help identify the appropriate settings during limiting. The processing also analyzes the frequency content of the input signal and automatically applies the necessary adjustments when low frequencies tend to drive the limiter more heavily, with the goal of preserving the transparency and integrity of the material.
In music mastering, MasterCheck 2 allows you to anticipate the behavior of distribution platforms, while ISL 2ST can be used to control True Peaks and reduce the risk of distortion caused by subsequent codec conversions. The combination of the two plug-ins thus offers a complementary workflow: MasterCheck 2 allows you to analyze and compare the results, while ISL 2ST processes the signal to control its peaks.
ISL 2ST is also suitable for post-production and broadcast workflows where compliance with True Peak criteria is a delivery requirement. The combination of brick-wall limiting, True Peak measurement, and adaptive processing allows you to manage final levels while letting the limiter automatically control peaks during production.
