Buzz Audio SOC-20: high-performance optical compression

The Buzz Audio SOC-20 is a stereo optical compressor designed to deliver musical and detailed sound through its all-discrete Class A audio path, based on proprietary BE41 amplifiers and Lundahl output transformers. The circuit and power supply design ensures an extended response with full bass and lively highs, avoiding any harshness in the midrange.

Mid-Side processing for precise control of stereophony

The SOC-20 includes a powerful Mid-Side processor that allows separate manipulation of the "mid" (common to both channels) and "side" (difference between channels) components of a stereo signal. This allows targeted interventions on the width and dynamics of the stereo image, making it ideal for complex mixes and electronic submixes.

Advanced side chain control

The side chain section of the SOC-20 offers unparalleled flexibility: you can activate a 170Hz high-pass filter to reduce low-frequency sensitivity, insert an external EQ via balanced XLR inputs, or monitor the side chain signal directly. This allows creative pumping effects and fine control over compressor behavior.

Intuitive controls and musical response

With differential side chain circuitry, the SOC-20 provides smooth and natural compression. Options for attack (1ms to AUTO), release (100ms to AUTO), and ratio (up to 20:1 with soft knee) offer a full range of dynamic intervention. Automatic modes make operation intuitive even in complex situations.
