Analog-style BBD delay plug-in with saturation and modulation
PSP Audioware PSP BBDelay is a delay and ambience plug-in inspired by the unmistakable character of classic BBD (Bucket Brigade Device) chips. The warm repeats, organic movement, and imperfections typical of analog circuits are combined with processing capabilities that go beyond the limits of vintage hardware. Inspired by a famous BBD delay and ambience processor from the 1980s, PSP BBDelay reproduces the depth, movement, and instability that made this technology so popular. The modeling of individual BBD chips, the compander’s behavior, and the imperfections of analog circuits all contribute to making each echo dynamic, textured, and musical.
PSP BBDelay goes beyond simply emulating a vintage delay. Transient shaping, ducking, gating, saturation, modulation, and tone shaping allow you to deeply customize the behavior of the repeats, ranging from analog-style echoes and rich ambience to experimental textures and sound effects.
The plug-in offers four modulation waveforms with various synchronization options. The BBD Chip Spread parameter also lets you vary the behavior of the chips to widen the stereo image, while adjusting the compander alignment allows you to transition from cleaner repeats to a deliberately imperfect vintage character. The delay speed control maintains a smooth, analog-style response and can be used alongside the Time and Tempo Sync modes. The delay time ranges up to 800 ms and can be extended to 1600 ms using the x2 mode.
The saturation section offers various response curves to add character to the repeats, while the three Analog Dirt modes introduce progressively more pronounced levels of character and imperfection. High-pass, low-pass, and resonant filters are also available in the feedback path, useful for shaping the tonal character of the delay.
The built-in ducker helps keep the delay more controlled during performance, allowing the repeats to emerge when the main signal fades. The gate, on the other hand, can be used to create rhythmic effects and more creative processing. A dedicated transient processor also lets you shape the attack of each repeat, further expanding the possibilities for manipulating the delay’s dynamic response.
Thanks to its Mono, Dual Mono, Ping-Pong, and Reverb modes, the PSP BBDelay can be used to create both traditional delays and more complex stereo effects, ambience, and soundscapes. The internal 64-bit processing ensures high-quality results, while the dry signal introduces no additional latency. The built-in preset browser includes Favorites, A/B comparison, Undo/Redo, and the ability to set preset user presets, making it easy to experiment and quickly recall your own configurations.
