The Audio-Technica AT8015 is a condenser shotgun microphone with a line + gradient polar pattern, designed for video production and audio recording in ENG/EFP broadcast applications. With a length of 460 mm, it offers a narrow pickup pattern that isolates the sound source even at a distance and delivers clear, natural speech. A reliable choice for field sound engineers, broadcasters, and documentary filmmakers, it is also useful for nature recording and high-quality sound production.

Line + gradient shotgun for remote miking

The highly directional line + gradient polar pattern concentrates sensitivity along the microphone’s axis and attenuates sounds coming from the sides and rear. In practice, you can keep the microphone out of the frame—on a boom or a stand—and still capture a clear, intelligible voice with less ambient sound and less reverberation from the location.

Natural on-axis sound for dialogue and vocals

The frequency response from 40 Hz to 20 kHz and the smooth, natural on-axis response make the AT8015 ideal for film and video dialogue, interviews, and news reports, where voice intelligibility is paramount.

Phantom power or AA battery operation for ENG and EFP shoots

The AT8015 operates on phantom power ranging from 11 to 52 V or with a standard 1.5 V AA battery housed in the handle. There’s no need to leave the battery in when using phantom power, while on location—when connected to cameras or recorders without a power source—you can count on approximately 1,200 hours of battery life with an alkaline battery.

Performance with Phantom Power and Battery

With phantom power, the AT8015 handles up to 132 dB SPL, with a dynamic range of 110 dB. On battery power, these figures drop to 120 dB SPL and a dynamic range of 98 dB—sufficient for the vast majority of speech and ambient recordings. The output is a low-impedance balanced signal via a 3-pin male XLR connector.

80 Hz high-pass filter to reduce ambient noise and vibrations

The built-in 80 Hz high-pass filter, with a slope of 18 dB/octave, is activated via a small switch and allows you to switch from a linear response to a low-frequency cut-off. It reduces traffic noise, air conditioning systems, room reverberation, and mechanical vibrations transmitted through the boom or boom pole, leaving you with a cleaner signal in post-production.

Rugged Construction and Included Accessories

The rugged body is designed for heavy-duty field use. Included are the AT8405a mount for 5/8"-27 threaded stands with a 3/8"-16 adapter, the AT8135 foam windscreen, two O-rings for securing the microphone in larger-diameter camera mounts, and a protective carrying case.
