Upgrade version from FabFilter Pro-Q 1-3 to FabFilter Pro-Q 4
The FabFilter Pro-Q 4 Upgrade allows users who already own an eligible previous version to upgrade their equalizer to the features of version 4. This license is not a standalone full version: before purchasing, you must verify that you own a FabFilter product compatible with the upgrade path.
Pro-Q 4 expands one of the most highly regarded software equalizers in professional audio production with new tools dedicated to mixing, mastering, post-production, and immersive audio. The update introduces Spectral Dynamics, EQ Sketch, Instance List, new Character modes, and a further-refined Dynamic EQ.
The upgrade to FabFilter Pro-Q 4 provides an extremely comprehensive equalization environment, featuring Zero Latency, Natural Phase, and Linear Phase processing. The 24 available bands can be used with numerous filter shapes and managed individually in Stereo, Mid/Side, or Left/Right modes.
The interactive interface allows you to create, select, and edit multiple bands simultaneously, while the built-in spectrum analyzer helps identify resonances, overlaps, and problematic frequencies during mixing or mastering.
Spectral Dynamics mode acts on individual frequency components that exceed the set threshold, rather than adjusting the gain of the entire band. This allows you to control variable resonances and unwanted peaks in a more selective, transparent, and musical way.
EQ Sketch lets you sketch an initial EQ curve with a single gesture. The plug-in interprets the sketch and automatically creates a combination of Low Cut, High Cut, Bell, and Shelf filters, providing a quick starting point for further work.
The new Instance List lets you view and control the various instances of FabFilter Pro-Q 4 in your session from a single interface. This feature simplifies initial mix setup, track comparison, and the use of EQ Match.
Pro-Q 4’s Dynamic EQ introduces dedicated Attack and Release controls, optional side-chain filtering, and external triggering. The Bell and Shelf bands can be converted into dynamic bands to apply selective compression or expansion in a natural, program-dependent manner.
Dynamic processing has been enhanced to reduce distortion and provide cleaner, more precise, and transparent control, even in mastering contexts.
The Gentle and Warm Character modes allow you to add a softer, warmer, and more analog character to the signal. This way, Pro-Q 4 can be used not only as a corrective equalizer but also as a creative tool for shaping the timbre of tracks and the mix.
FabFilter Pro-Q 4 features Spectrum Grab for direct editing of peaks displayed in the analyzer, Intelligent Solo for quickly isolating problematic frequencies, Auto Gain, Gain Scale, and various display ranges tailored for mixing and mastering.
The Piano Display also allows you to view frequencies as musical notes and to quantize the center frequency of the bands—a feature particularly useful for harmonic processing, sound design, and musical instrument processing.
Pro-Q 4 supports major surround and immersive formats up to Dolby Atmos 9.1.6, depending on the DAW and plug-in format used. The interface automatically adapts to the multichannel configuration and allows you to precisely select the speakers affected by each EQ band.
This version is intended exclusively for users who own a previous license eligible for the upgrade. Eligibility and the terms of the upgrade path may depend on the product already registered in your FabFilter account.
