Herbs and Stones Three Stems is a multiband analog processor designed to sculpt sound in creative and radical ways. By dividing the signal into three independent frequency bands, it allows precise intervention in every area of the spectrum, transforming any audio source.
The input signal is divided into three adjustable bands, each processed by a two-stage asymmetric saturation and distortion circuit. This allows for an extremely wide sound range: from slight harmonic coloration to aggressive and complex distortion.
Each band offers dedicated controls for center frequency, width (resonance), saturation and mix level. The result is total control over tonal balance, ideal for working on drums, basses, synths and ambient recordings.
At high gain levels, the bands can interact with each other generating ring modulation-like effects and dynamic gating. This makes Three Stems a powerful tool for experimental sound design and evolutionary sound textures.
The circuit is designed to cover a wide range of use: from warm, musical parametric EQ to extreme levels of unstable distortion. Soft clipping that can be activated for each band allows further shaping of the character of saturation.
Due to its high input impedance, Three Stems accepts line level signals and is compatible with a wide range of instruments. Higher signals can be attenuated for more extreme and unpredictable effects.
