Il 6176 include un preamplificatore microfonico valvolare 610B ed un compressore 1176LN. Troppo spesso la qualità audio nei sistemi moderni di registrazione e missaggio digitale è seriamente compromessa dagli stadi d’ingresso. Molti utilizzatori che esigono potenza e flessibilità dalla tecnologia digitale di oggigiorno, riscontrano tuttavia il desiderio di tornare al calore ed alle tonalità delle apparecchiature costruite a mano che si usavano un tempo. Ora con il 6176, Universal Audio per la prima volta combina il tanto acclamato preamplificatore valvolare 610 con il leggendario compressore 1176LN al fine di creare un singolo canale adatto a qualsiasi tipo di applicazione. Il 6176 dispone di un ingresso microfonico con impedenza variabile a 500 ohms o 2K ohms ed un ingresso ad alta impedenza selezionabile a 2.2 Meg ohms o 47K ohms utile per strumenti come chitarra, basso ecc. La manopola ratio nella sezione compressore dispone anche della posizione ‘ALL’, il famosissimo ‘British mode’ che indicava la pressione di tutti i pulsanti ratio del 1176LN per una compressione estrema.
