The Koma Elektronik Chromaplane is an analog electromagnetic synthesizer that transforms magnetic fields into sound. It is played by moving two coil pickups across the surface of the instrument, "listening" to a cloud of electromagnetic fields generated by its ten analog oscillators. The result is a unique, organic and interactive sound experience, perfect for creating complex drones or delicate melodies.
Fully analog and polyphonic, the Chromaplane uses 10 square-wave oscillators arranged in three independent rows, each equipped with a switch to lower the frequency range by an octave. Each electromagnetic field can be individually tuned using 30-turn precision screws.
The sound can be modulated by a 4-pole low-pass filter (20 Hz - 20 kHz) that can go to self-oscillation. The filter can be modulated by the internal signal, producing rich and harmonically complex timbres. A lo-fi delay/echo with CV control adds space and depth, turning the Chromaplane into an instrument capable of immersive soundscapes.
In addition to the included pickups, the Chromaplane has an external audio input to send signals to one of the surface EMFs. Theenvelope output can be used to modulate other synthesizer parameters or control external devices, offering an advanced and dynamic level of interaction.
Each magnetic field can be individually tuned and saved via the Chromaplane Tuning Tool, also available online. The tuning system allows you to create custom libraries and share your combinations with other musicians.
The Chromaplane is constructed of bent anodized aluminum and beech wood, materials that combine minimal aesthetics and sturdiness. Designed in collaboration with Passepartout Duo, it is intended for live performance, experimental sound design, and sound installations.
