  • AT8480 shock mount and hard case included

TheAudio-Technica AT5040 is the benchmark cardioid condenser microphone of Audio-Technica’s 50 Series, designed primarily for studio vocals. It delivers smooth high frequencies with well-controlled sibilance and a fast transient response, making it equally effective for miking acoustic instruments such as piano, guitar, strings, and saxophone. Hand-assembled and inspected, it combines an original capsule design with a solid construction built to last.

Four-Diaphragm Rectangular Capsule for a Natural Vocal Sound

At the heart of the AT5040 is a rectangular element composed of four parts that work together as a single large diaphragm. The total surface area is double that of a standard 1" circular diaphragm, resulting in improved sensitivity, low noise, and sound purity. The result is a realistic, deep, and present sound, with a detailed yet never harsh vocal image.

Discrete Components and Low Noise

The discrete-component electronics are optimized to enhance the capsule’s performance. With an equivalent noise level of 5 dB, a signal-to-noise ratio of 89 dB, and a dynamic range of 137 dB, the AT5040 captures even the most delicate passages without hiss, giving you ample headroom during mixing.

Studio microphone for vocals and acoustic instruments

In addition to vocals, the AT5040 proves versatile with acoustic sources. Its fast transient response accurately captures the attack of a piano, the plucking of a guitar, the bowing of strings, and the dynamics of a saxophone. Its ability to handle up to 142 dB SPL allows you to use it on high-level sources without worrying about clipping.

Internal Shock Mount and AT8480 Stand

An advanced internal suspension system decouples the capsule from the microphone body, reducing vibrations and mechanical noise. The included AT8480 shock mount, custom-designed for the AT5040, adds an additional layer of isolation from vibrations transmitted by the boom and the floor.

Aluminum and brass construction, hand-assembled

Each AT5040 is hand-assembled and inspected to ensure rigorous quality control. The aluminum and brass body ensures ruggedness and durability, while the hard case with molded foam inserts protects the microphone during transport and storage. Audio-Technica backs it with a 5-year limited warranty.
