The iconic clap sound of the TR-909, but with all the features we would have wanted on the original. The Mutant Clap expands the classic "old school" character by adding a much wider tonal range: it is both a powerful percussive synthesis engine and a voltage controllable LFSR noise oscillator.
Pitch control over the noise generator opens up possibilities ranging from the classic 909 clap to broken sounds, chiptune, and "alien" textures. Thanks to the NOISE output and PITCH CV, the module can also behave as a retro-flavored noise VCO (Commodore 64 style).
The Mutant Clap integrates an internal reverb derived from the clap tone: the decay of the reverb coincides with the decay of the sound and is fully controllable via CV, from short "snaps" to long, enveloping tails. You can choose between internal or external noise source for reverb generation, resulting in very creative combinations. The external input also allows you to "build" clap from any audio source.
After the closure of Hexinverter Électronique (announced in September 2022), Erica Synths has continued the life of some iconic modules: retaining the functionality, redesigned the hardware in close collaboration with Hexinverter, and providing support for reissue versions.
