The WesAudio Timbre is a Vari-Mu tube compressor designed to deliver the classic warm, musical compression of vintage processors. Inspired by the legendary Gates STA-Level, Timbre uses the famous 6386 tube to achieve compression rich in harmonics and analog character.

With its all-valve architecture and high-quality Carnhill transformers, Timbre delivers extremely musical compression ideal for vocals, instruments, and mix buses.

Classic Vari-Mu Compression

At the heart of the WesAudio Timbre is the Vari-Mu circuit, a compression technology historically used in the most prestigious tube compressors. In this design, gain reduction occurs directly through the behavior of the tubes, producing a smooth, progressive and very musical response.

This type of compression is especially popular for:

Valve circuit with 6386 valve

The compressor uses the famous 6386 valve, a key component of the most sought-after vintage vari-mu compressors. This element allows for extremely natural compression with typical analog harmonic coloration.

The fully balanced circuit with Carnhill transformers helps provide a full, warm, three-dimensional sound.

Three operating modes

The Timbre offers three different compression modes to suit different production contexts:

• Single - smooth, musical compression
• Double - greater dynamic control
• Triple - faster attack for more punchy compression

These modes allow you to switch between very gentle compression and firmer dynamic control.

Program-dependent release circuit

The program-dependent release circuit reacts dynamically to the audio signal. This allows the compressor to automatically adapt to the sound material, maintaining natural, smooth compression even at high reduction levels.

Timbre can handle up to 40 dB of gain reduction while maintaining musical behavior at all times.

High-pass sidechain filter

The sidechain high-pass filter allows you to prevent low frequencies from activating compression excessively. This function is especially useful when using the compressor on mix buses or on material with significant low frequencies.

Stereo link function

The compressor includes a stereo linking function that allows two units to be used in stereo mode while maintaining perfectly consistent compression between the two channels.

Bypass function

The bypass function allows you to quickly compare the processed signal with the original one, making it easier to work during mixing and adjusting parameters.
