DVINA is the first electroacoustic instrument created by Soma Laboratory, combining principles of acoustic physics and advanced electronic design. Inspired by the musical tradition of India and Persia, DVINA also lends itself to contemporary and experimental explorations. The uniqueness of its sound comes from a unique pickup system: the strings vibrate in a magnetic field generated by a neodymium magnet in the neck and produce a direct electrical signal, without the use of conventional pickups.
The weak signal generated by the strings is amplified by a custom transformer built into the body of the instrument, similar to a ribbon microphone. This system ensures an extremely clean, noise-free sound that is perfectly ready to be processed by effects pedals, amplifiers or sound cards.
DVINA is constructed from a single piece of solid wood (ash, beech or oak) and finished with varnishes that enhance the natural grain. Each component is essential: no part can be removed without compromising its function. It has shoulder strap supports and comes with screws and mounting hardware.
DVINA is available in two variants. The Serial version is produced in small batches of 30-50 units, available in three colors (Black, Red, Graphite) and supplied in a semi-rigid case. The Custom version is made to order, with the possibility of custom configurations (e.g., left-handed), unique colors, and supplied with a soft case and rigid carrying tube.
