Erica Synths EDU DIY BBD - Bucket Brigade Analog Delay Educational Kit

Erica Synths EDU DIY BBD is a DIY kit from the mki x es.EDU educational series (developed by Erica Synths and Moritz Klein) designed to teach, even to those starting from scratch, how a real analog effects circuit is created in the modular synthesizer field.

Rather than just "solder and use," this project walks you through understanding the circuit: every design choice is explained step by step, so you really learn the fundamentals of analog design.

What is a Bucket Brigade Delay (BBD)

Before digital made effects more compact and easy to manage, delays were made with tape machines or by exploiting natural echoes. In the late 1960s, engineers Sangster and Teer introduced the Bucket Brigade Delay concept: the audio signal is "sampled" and transferred through a chain of transistors and capacitors, generating an output that is delayed relative to the input.

From reverse engineering to your Eurorack delay

During the construction of the module, you will go on to reconstruct the architecture of a classic BBD: first making an essential version on a breadboard and then implementing a simple audio delay using a real BBD chip. This is an ideal course for those who want a hands-on understanding of how to design and optimize analog audio circuits.

Important: Support and manuals

Note: The mki x es.EDU series kits are intentionally simple and include very detailed manuals that can be downloaded separately. For this very reason, there is no customer support in case of malfunctions due to assembly errors or non-functioning builds.
