Soma Laboratory The Pipe (Black) is a unique experimental instrument that transforms the voice into a powerful vocal synthesizer capable of generating leads, rhythms, bass and soundscapes. Designed by Soma founder Vlad Kreimer, The Pipe transcends the traditional boundaries of singing and introduces a new way of using the voice as a true synthesis source.
The idea stems from the need to use the voice not only to sing lyrics, but as a pure expressive instrument, similar to a synthesizer. At the heart of the system is the contact vocal microphone designed by Soma, which allows direct and dynamic control of the signal before processing it through dedicated algorithms.
The included microphone (Standard version with emphasized mids) captures vibrations directly from the body, allowing extremely sensitive and controlled interaction. Optional microphones with different response curves are available: Flat (neutral) and Bassy (emphasized low frequencies).
The Pipe integrates 16 algorithms including ORPHEUS, FILTERRA, SYNTH, REVERB, MADELAY, PULSE, three variants of BASSDRUM, OCTAVA, GENERATOR and HARCHO. Each algorithm offers radically different sonic possibilities, from granular manipulation to rhythmic and ambient synthesis.
In addition to vocal use, The Pipe can function as a stereo effects processor for external sources such as synthesizers, drum machines, and acoustic instruments. You can connect any signal via the input jack and take advantage of internal dynamic processing.
The system consists of a handheld unit with built-in contact microphone and a break-out box with stereo L/R outputs (1/4" jack) and DC power input. The unit can be mounted on a microphone stand or used with a shoulder strap included in the basic kit, making it ideal for live performances, experimental sound design, and electronic productions.
