The Audio-Technica BP28L is the long-body version of the BP28: a shotgun microphone that combines a large-diaphragm condenser capsule with a 567.9 mm interference tube, resulting in an extremely narrow polar pattern and self-noise of just 3 dB SPL. It is designed for broadcast, film and television productions, outdoor recordings, and theater, where the sound source is distant and you cannot get close. The transformer-coupled output gives it a smooth and natural sound character.

Long, large-diaphragm shotgun microphone for long-distance recording

The length of the interference tube further narrows the pickup pattern compared to the BP28, allowing you to isolate distant voices and sounds while keeping ambient noise low. It’s the ideal choice for sideline sports coverage, nature filming, large stages, and wide shots on set, where directivity makes all the difference in intelligibility.

Self-noise of just 3 dB SPL

The large-diaphragm capsule and optimized circuitry reduce self-noise to just 3 dB SPL, with a sensitivity of -23 dB (70.8 mV). When recording from a distance and you need to boost the gain significantly, the microphone’s self-noise remains virtually inaudible, even on the quietest dialogue or the most delicate natural sounds.

Constant directivity and transformer-coupled output

The patented design of the acoustic ports maintains directivity across the entire frequency range, preventing the loss of focus in the low and mid frequencies typical of many shotgun microphones. The transformer-coupled output delivers a smooth sound character, while the linear frequency response from 20 Hz to 20 kHz ensures accurate reproduction.

135 dB dynamic range

With a dynamic range of 135 dB, a maximum SPL of 138 dB—rising to 148 dB with the pad engaged—and a signal-to-noise ratio of 91 dB, the BP28L confidently handles both the weakest and loudest sound sources.

80 Hz high-pass filter, 10 dB pad, and aluminum body

The 80 Hz high-pass filter, with a slope of 18 dB/octave, reduces traffic noise, ventilation noise, room reverberation, and vibrations transmitted through the boom or stand. The switchable -10 dB pad prevents clipping with very loud sources. The structural aluminum alloy body is lightweight and rugged, designed for heavy-duty field use.
