The Schoeps CMIT 5 (anthracite-grey) is a professional shotgun microphone designed for live sound applications in film, broadcast and audiovisual production. Since its introduction, the CMIT 5 has set a new standard among shotgun microphones due to its exceptional sound quality, precise directionality, and outstanding naturalness in sound reproduction.
The directionality of the microphone gradually increases with high frequencies, providing an extremely balanced sound character. Sounds coming off-axis are attenuated gradually and naturally, reducing the effects of boom movements and maintaining a consistent and neutral sound output.
The CMIT 5 features a supercardioid front-lobe polar pattern that provides strong directionality while maintaining an extremely natural sound response. This feature enables effective isolation of the sound source while maintaining a realistic rendering of the surrounding environment.
The coloration of off-axis sounds is unusually low for a shotgun microphone, making the CMIT 5 ideal not only for dialogue and film direct take, but also for music recordings such as concerts or operas.
The microphone's behavior remains consistent even during on-axis rotation, thanks to a symmetrical polar pattern in both the vertical and horizontal planes. This aspect is especially useful in boom operations, where small movements can affect sound performance.
The Schoeps CMIT 5 incorporates three filters that can be activated via dedicated buttons, allowing the microphone to quickly adapt to different recording conditions:
Next to each button are LED indicators that clearly show the status of the active filters. Settings remain stored even when the microphone is turned off, providing operational convenience on set.
The CMIT 5 is built with a sturdy metal body that ensures reliability even in the most demanding productions. Despite the solid construction, the microphone remains extremely lightweight, a key feature for boom use during long recording sessions.
The capsule and amplifier are integrated into a single unit, a design solution different from that of the modular Schoeps Colette series, which contributes to the microphone's compactness and stability.
