The Erica Synths Bullfrog Drums is a versatile instrument that combines a drum machine, sampler, and CV/gate sequencer. It’s designed as a learning path: it guides you through drum programming, sampling techniques, working with samples, and integrating the unit into all kinds of live setups. The voices are sample-based, so you’re not limited to percussion: abstract noises, chord stabs, drones, and any other sound can become material for your patterns. The hands-on interface, housed in the classic Erica Synths aluminum case, is intuitive both in the studio and on stage.

Seven Sampled Voices and Sounds by Richie Hawtin

The Bullfrog Drums offers seven sample-based drum voices, each with its own dedicated level control. Included are seven banks of factory samples created by Richie Hawtin in collaboration with the Erica Synths team: a solid starting point for instantly building techno and electronic grooves.

Sound design on samples with 7 parameters

Each sample can be shaped using seven sound design parameters—to transform a kick drum hit into a tonal element, shorten a drone until it becomes percussive, or breathe new life into any sound. This is where the drum machine truly becomes your own instrument.

Sampler with built-in microphone and line input

You can sample directly from the line input by connecting a synth, turntable, or any other source, or from the built-in microphone to capture ambient sounds on the fly. The built-in speaker lets you hear the result right away, even without monitors or headphones. The 64 MB memory holds up to 16 banks of user samples, and USB-C backup keeps your work safe.

Kits and patterns always at your fingertips

The internal memory stores 4 banks of 16 patterns and 4 banks of 16 kits, so you can organize your sounds and recall them quickly during a session or performance.

X0X sequencer with ratchet, probability, and parameter lock

The X0X-style sequencer is intuitive and practical: you program patterns step by step, directly from the buttons. Ratchet, probability, and microtiming add variation and groove, while parameter locks and per-track automation let you change the sound of every single step. Sequences can be up to 64 steps long, for longer, more complex patterns.

CV/Gate Sequencer for Your Synths

Bullfrog Drums isn’t just for drums: with its 1V/Oct CV and gate outputs, you can directly control analog synths and Eurorack modules. MIDI IN and MIDI OUT via DIN and USB-C integrate it with DAWs, controllers, and other devices, while the stereo output and 3.5 mm headphone jack round out the connectivity.
