Erica Synths EDU DIY VCO is the ideal starting point for understanding how an analog synthesizer really works. This kit allows you to build from scratch a true Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO), the fundamental building block of any synthetic voice.
Using a small number of components and a breadboard, you will build a fully functioning oscillator, learning essential electronics concepts such as voltage, current, and resistance, and understanding how these elements generate oscillation, pitch control, and waveform shaping.
The module offers Saw and Pulse outputs, 1V/oct tracking for seamless integration into modular systems, temperature compensation for enhanced pitch stability, and dedicated inputs for FM and PWM, greatly expanding timbral possibilities.
After the breadboard experimentation phase, you can assemble the final circuit on the included PCB and panel, turning it into a true Eurorack module ready for your system.
This is the first kit in the mki x es.EDU series, a collaboration between Erica Synths and Moritz Klein, created with the goal of making analog synthesizer design accessible to everyone. The over 40-page illustrated manual guides the entire process step by step, with clear explanations, intuitive diagrams and language suitable even for beginners.
The kit is self-guided and designed for learning. No individual technical support is provided for any assembly errors, but the documentation is detailed and designed to help you understand and solve any problems on your own.
