Dolby Atmos Surround Upmix Plug-in Bundle with Focus Elements
NUGEN Audio Halo Upmix + Focus Elements combines four plug-ins dedicated to soundstage management, surround upmixing, and stereo content control. The bundle includes Halo Upmix along with Monofilter Elements, Stereoplacer Elements, and Stereoizer Elements. This combination allows you to work on everything from stereo imaging to the creation of multichannel surround mixes, offering tools suitable for television production, film, sound design, audio restoration, and music production.
Halo Upmix is designed to transform stereo material into surround soundscapes, ranging from natural expansions of the source to broader, cinematic-style scenarios. Its algorithms analyze the original stereo material in real time, identifying and extracting localization information useful for naturally expanding the soundstage. The process is designed to preserve the character of the source without adding artificial reverb, chorus, or delay.
Halo Upmix supports LCR, 3.1, 4.0, 4.1, 5.0, 5.1, 6.0, 6.1, 7.0, and 7.1 configurations, making it suitable for various multichannel workflows. The plug-in is designed for applications ranging from the restoration of archival material and television production to film, sound design, and soundtrack production.
One of Halo Upmix’s distinctive features is its dedicated center channel management, which includes a selectable dialogue extraction function. This feature is particularly useful in television productions and repurposing processes, where control over the dialogue component can be a fundamental part of the surround workflow.
Halo Upmix generates a coherent spatial image with the goal of maintaining high compatibility when the material is subsequently downmixed to a smaller number of channels. When the Exact control is enabled, the plug-in is designed to precisely preserve the integrity of the original source in the downmix. This feature is particularly important in workflows where consistent relationships must be maintained between the original version, the upmixed version, and the subsequent downmix.
Halo Upmix includes a dedicated spatial analysis visualization that intuitively displays the energy distribution within the generated mix. The visualization can use different colors to indicate the origin of the sound from various speakers, helping to identify signal behavior at different positions and distinguish, for example, a phantom center from a hard center.
Focus Elements includes simplified versions of the NUGEN Audio Stereoizer, Monofilter, and Stereoplacer plug-ins. The Elements versions use the same core technology as their respective Focus plug-ins, presented through a more streamlined set of tools. Together with Halo Upmix, they allow you to adjust stereo width, low frequencies, and source placement before or during the production and mixing process.
Stereoizer Elements allows you to add width and spatial balance to your audio material. It can be used to create a stereo signal from a mono source or to achieve a particularly wide stereo image. The processing is designed to maintain mono compatibility, allowing you to widen the image without compromising the mix’s behavior when played back in mono.
Monofilter Elements is dedicated to controlling the lower end of the spectrum. It allows you to sum the low frequencies in mono and make them more defined, tight, and controlled. It can also be used to optimize material intended for high-level playback and to prepare mixes and masters for vinyl, while preserving the track’s original character.
Stereoplacer Elements allows you to adjust the positioning of content within the stereo image while preserving the rest of the soundscape. It can be used to reconstruct a stereo image from mono material, correct issues arising from stereo microphone placement, restore archival recordings, and process samples from old recordings.
Halo Upmix can be expanded with the optional 3D Immersive Extension, which introduces additional controls for the vertical dimension and allows you to work with Dolby Atmos 7.1.2, Auro 3D 7.1.4, and Ambisonic outputs. The extension also adds a real-time visualization of vertical energy distribution and retains features such as dialogue isolation and individual output control. The 3D Immersive Extension is not included in this bundle and is available separately.
In television, Halo Upmix enables you to handle surround workflows and repurposing tasks by offering control over the soundstage and dialogue isolation. For film and sound design, it can be used on soundtracks, synthesizers, stereo effects, archive material, and effects returns. With the optional 3D Immersive Extension, the possibilities are expanded to include Dolby Atmos, Auro 3D, and Ambisonics workflows for immersive applications, VR, and game audio.
