The AEA A440 represents the modern evolution of the legendary RCA 44BX, one of the most iconic ribbon microphones in recording history. It retains all the sonic character that made the R44 series legendary—deep bass, rich mids, and smooth highs—while introducing active electronics powered by phantom power that improve sensitivity, signal-to-noise ratio, and compatibility with any professional preamp.

The Classic AEA Sound with Active Technology

The AEA A440 uses the same 1.8-micron NOS RCA aluminum ribbon found in the classic R44 series microphones. However, the active electronics and Lundahl transformer deliver significantly higher sensitivity than traditional passive ribbon microphones.

Thanks to P48 phantom power, the microphone delivers a high and consistent output level, eliminating the need for ultra-high-gain preamps without altering the tonal character typical of AEA ribbon microphones.

Natural Response Without the Need for Equalization

Like all AEA Big Ribbon Mics™, the A440 is designed to deliver an extremely linear and resonance-free response across the audible range. This allows for full and natural recordings with very little EQ needed during mixing.
