The TELEFUNKEN ELA M 251E is considered by many to be one of the finest microphones ever made. Featured on countless legendary hits and recordings, vintage examples of the Model 250/251 (both "E" and non-"E") are now extremely rare and highly sought after, with valuations reaching tens of thousands of dollars on the vintage market. The reconstruction made by TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik reproduces with absolute fidelity all the sound and construction qualities of the originals, keeping alive the legacy of more than 50 years of history.
With its smooth, yet present and airy sound, the TELEFUNKEN ELA M 251E is a timeless classic. Especially suited for vocals and acoustic instruments, it offers extended and controlled bass, a detailed midrange, and a silky, refined high frequency response.
The microphone incorporates an edge-terminated dual-diaphragm CK12 capsule capable of three polar diagrams: cardioid, omnidirectional and bidirectional. It uses a NOS 6072a tube and a Haufe T14/1 output transformer, the same as in the original AKG C12. The use of modern components allows for more precise construction, better current handling and lower own noise than the vintage originals. Each unit is perfectly interchangeable with the vintage models.
The TELEFUNKEN replica respects every detail of the original: from the historically accurate aesthetic finishes to the structural design. The amplifier circuit, which houses the tube and transformer, is contained in a molded plastic housing, while the capsule is suspended and has a polar selector switch built into the front grille. The classic TELEFUNKEN diamond logo is applied to the front of the microphone with the initials ELA M engraved on the base.
Each ELA M 251E microphone comes with M 950E power supply, Sommer M 850E 25-foot tube cable, Rycote elastic suspension, FC50 rigid flight case with closure and WB50 wooden box.
