The Buchla Ziggy is a desktop analog synthesizer designed to deliver an immediate, expressive and deeply creative musical experience. Based on the celebrated "complex oscillator" concept typical of the Buchla tradition, Ziggy represents a modern evolution of West Coast synthesis, combining pure analog circuits with advanced digital control.
Unlike traditional synthesizers, Ziggy eliminates the need for patchcords, offering an intuitive gesture-based system: simply select a parameter and modulate via sliders and encoders. This approach makes sound creation fast, fluid, and highly performative.
The heart of the modulation system is the Cycler, a unique source that combines clock, LFO, envelope and random generator. Added to this are XLFO and analog modulator, usable at both low frequency and audio-rate for AM and FM, offering exceptional sound depth.
Ziggy integrates two analog oscillators: a Complex Oscillator and a Modulation Oscillator. The former starts from a sine wave and can be shaped through wavefolding, distortion and modulation, while the latter acts as a powerful modulation source or additional sound generator.
The Low Pass Gate combines amplifier and filter in a single section, with unconventional envelopes that favor expressiveness over technical precision. This approach encourages sonic discovery and the creation of organic textures.
With the built-in effects section, you can enrich your sound with reverbs, delays, chorus, flangers and pitch shifting. The preset system allows you to easily save and recall more than 100 configurations, making Ziggy ideal in the studio and live.
Ziggy integrates seamlessly with modern setups thanks to MIDI support via USB-C, 5-pin DIN and USB-A, as well as 1V/oct CV compatibility. It can be used with external controllers such as the Buchla LEM 218, DAWs and Eurorack modular systems.
Designed for modern studios, Ziggy offers a compact design with no patchcord, power supply via USB-C, and stylish wood and steel construction. The interface is complemented by bright LEDs that indicate modulations and real-time assignments.
