Do I have to use PMC if I switch to Dolby Atmos?
No. The room mounts PMC 7.1.4 as a certified reference, but the consultancy is agnostic: we also design with Genelec, Neumann, ADAM and other brands.
What is the minimum setup for Atmos Music?
The best reference setup recommended by Dolby for Atmos Music mix studios is 9.1.4. However, 7.1.4 (minimum setup for Dolby Atmos) setups are also listable by Dolby.
Can I upgrade a stereo studio without redoing everything?
Often yes. Acoustics, existing cabling, routing, SPL power delivered and additional speakers are evaluated, reusing all or part of the existing infrastructure.
Can I buy the speakers and make my own Dolby Atmos setup?
Yes, but it should be considered that the Dolby mix is subject to encoding/decoding: specifications and calibration directly affect encoding. A non-compliant room will introduce errors and mistranslations on audio platforms such as Apple Music.
Do I have to have a 7.1.4 or 9.1.6 system? Can I mix in headphones?
Binaural is useful for control, but it remains a rough reconstruction-it will never replace accurate listening with monitors in a compliant room.
How much does a Dolby Atmos upgrade cost?
To give a generic spending range would be unreliable. It is not just a matter of multiplying the cost of the monitors: you have to meet Dolby specifications on acoustics, layout and routing. The demo is precisely to evaluate the suitable setup.
Does Dolby have to certify the direction?
For Dolby Atmos Music there is no certification, but an official listing on the Dolby website that is accessible only if the room meets Dolby parameters.
Can I bring my own mixes?
Yes, it is recommended: we immediately assess impacts on panning, object management, headroom, translation and binaural rendering.
