4-Channel Multimode Modulator and Envelope Generator with Configurable Slopes
ALM Busy Circuits Quaid Gigaslope is a four-channel multimodal modulator: each channel generates a slope with variable stages that can function as a complex envelope, a flexible LFO, or a step sequence. An evolution of the Megaslope, it expands on the concept of a complex, menu-free modulator—all knobs and immediacy—extending it to four channels. It easily handles the classic tasks of envelopes, quantized sequences, and LFOs, but is designed above all to push you into more experimental territory, where overlapping slopes, self-modulation, and interaction between channels generate unique and unpredictable results.
Each slope can contain up to 13 stages, which can be independent or stacked on top of those from other slopes. It can be triggered or run freely, and for each stage you have manual and voltage-controlled adjustment of level, duration, and curve. With four channels, you can manage multiple independent multi-stage ADSRs, complex LFOs, or envelopes for a polyphonic patch with up to four voices—all from the same panel.
The modulation stages are shared or divided among the slopes according to your needs: one highly complex slope and others that are simpler, or four balanced envelopes. The adjustable curves for each stage let you switch from sharp, exponential attacks to smooth, linear ramps, precisely shaping the character of each modulation.
The output range of each slope is selectable between ±5 V, 0–5 V, and 0–2.5 V and can be quantized across 19 different musical scales. This way, a slope becomes a melodic sequence ready to drive a VCO, with the stages acting as steps and levels that always fall within the key.
The trigger outputs can be assigned to the end of each stage or upon completion of the slope. Use them to cascade other channels, trigger percussive voices, or build self-generating chains of events, paving the way for original and ever-evolving patterns.
Four freely assignable CV inputs allow you to modulate any parameter, while support for Axon expanders adds four more CV inputs. Self-modulation and channel interaction make the Quaid Gigaslope an instrument to be played, ideal for performative sequencing and improvisation. All settings are retained when powered off, and the firmware can be easily updated via USB-C using drag-and-drop.
