Compact Analog LFO and VCO - Eurorack Format
The ALM Busy Circuits Pip LFO is a fully analog low-frequency oscillator—compact at just 4 HP yet packed with features: a wide frequency range, voltage control, multiple outputs, a reset input, and a VCO mode. It’s the ideal module when you need a reliable and versatile modulation source without sacrificing space, with the added benefit of being able to convert it into an audio oscillator as needed.
The LFO’s speed is set using the dedicated knob and via the CV input. Unipolar square and triangle waves, as well as sawtooth and sine waves (in both bipolar and unipolar versions), are available simultaneously. This allows you to modulate different parameters in parallel using different waveforms: the sine wave for a smooth vibrato, the sawtooth for a filter that opens up, and the square wave for a gate or a trill.
Bipolar outputs oscillate around zero, perfect for symmetrical modulations such as vibrato and panning. Unipolar outputs remain in the positive range, ideal for controlling VCAs, filter openings, or parameters that must not fall below a rest value. Having both versions directly on the module eliminates the need for additional offsets and attenuators.
When VCO mode is activated, the frequency rises into the audible range, and the Pip LFO becomes an oscillator that tracks V/oct over approximately 5 octaves. It’s like having an extra small analog VCO, ready for bass lines, simple melodies, audio-rate FM modulations, or as a second voice to complement your main oscillator.
The reset input resets the waveform cycle to the beginning, allowing you to synchronize the LFO to a clock or trigger and ensure that modulations are always in time. In VCO mode, this same input functions as a hard sync, opening the door to classic, aggressive sync sounds. An LED indicates the oscillation frequency at all times.
