AtoV cDVCA (Silver) is an original Eurorack module that reinvents the operation of the traditional voltage-controlled amplifier. Its architecture, inspired by Class D amplification technology, is not designed to provide a transparent response, but rather to add character, harmonics, and new possibilities for timbral manipulation to the signal.

The incoming audio signal is converted into an ultrasonic PWM signal at approximately 34 kHz. The modulation is then amplitude-modulated and filtered to reconstruct the original signal, introducing a distinctive sonic coloration that is particularly well-suited for experimentation.

VCA with 1V/oct tracking

One of the most innovative features of the AtoV cDVCA is the ability to lower the PWM frequency into the audible spectrum and control it via the 1V/oct input. In this way, the module can produce waveshaping effects that follow the pitch of melodies, sequences, and bass lines.

This unique architecture combines the behavior of a VCA with that of a waveshaper and a harmonic generator, offering results ranging from controlled saturation to the most extreme timbral transformations.

Defined and Controllable Distortion

The Drive section uses an innovative clipping system that does not rely on simple circuit overdrive. This allows for precise distortion, rich in harmonics and with a clearly recognizable sonic identity.

The signal is then processed by a single-pole VCF/Tone circuit, which helps attenuate the most aggressive frequencies and keep the module’s extensive harmonic content under control.

Standalone Synth Voice

When no input signal is present, the cDVCA automatically generates a simple square wave. The module can therefore be used as a compact synthesizer voice consisting of an oscillator, VCA, and filter.

This mode further expands creative possibilities, allowing the cDVCA to be used both as an audio processor and as a standalone sound source within a modular system.
