Compact shotgun microphone for direct take

  • Compact shotgun microphone for camera, boom, ENG, broadcast and studio
  • Supercardioid pattern with interference tube: highly directive pickup and great off-axis rejection
  • Smooth off-axis response for more natural sound than typical shotguns
  • Extremely low noise (13 dB(A) typical) and wide dynamic range (124 dB typical)
  • Permanent high-pass filter at 50 Hz to reduce rumble and vibration
  • Selectable filters: low cut below 120 Hz and high boost (+4 dB at 8 kHz)
  • Excellent RF immunity and high resistance to humidity and temperature extremes
  • P48 phantom power supply, balanced output on XLR-3M
  • Compact and lightweight: 212 mm long, 68 g

DPA 4017C Compact Shotgun Mic: directionality and clarity for direct pickup

The DPA 4017C Compact Shotgun Mic is a condenser shotgun mic designed for a wide range of applications: camera systems, fixed installations (sports and large venues), broadcast/ENG, cinema booms, and even studio recording environments. Its combination of compact size and high-end performance makes it an ideal choice when you need a "remote" microphone that is accurate, yet easy to handle on the move.

The supercardioid lobed polar pattern is achieved through a pressure gradient design with an interference tube, for highly directive imaging and strong attenuation of side and rear sounds. DPA has also worked to make the off-axis response more uniform, so that what comes in from the sides sounds more natural and less "colored" than many conventional shotgun microphones.

Clean sound in any context: low noise and great dynamics

The 4017C offers very low own noise and a wide dynamic range, features that are essential in live sound and broadcast where people often work with varying distances and complex environments. The microphone also incorporates a permanent 50 Hz high-pass filter to contain low-frequency rumble and vibration, keeping speech more readable and the mix more controlled right out of the recording phase.

Selectable Filters: Low Cut and High Boost

To quickly adapt to different locations and sources, selectable filters are available: Low Cut (first-order filter below 120 Hz) to further reduce handling/wind noise and High Boost (+4 dB at 8 kHz) to add presence and definition, useful for dialogue and remote shooting.

Reliability on set: RF immunity and resistance to humidity and temperature

In ENG and cinema, operational robustness is crucial: the 4017C is designed to offer excellent RF immunity and to work in high humidity and challenging weather conditions. This makes it suitable for outdoor shooting, difficult locations, and "run & gun" productions where stability and consistency are essential.

Simple integration: phantom P48 and balanced XLR output

The microphone runs on Phantom P48 power and uses a balanced output on XLR-3M, for immediate compatibility with live mixers, portable recorders, audio interfaces and broadcast systems.
