EMT 140 Plate Reverb Plug-in - UAD Hardware Emulation
The Universal Audio UAD EMT 140 Classic Plate Reverberator recreates the natural warmth, presence, and character of the legendary EMT 140 plate reverb. The plug-in was modeled after three original vintage units and is an officially licensed emulation by EMT International. The character of plate reverb is an integral part of recording history and can be heard in productions by artists such as The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, and Adele. With the UAD EMT 140, this type of ambience can be integrated directly into your recording and mixing sessions.
One of the key features of the UAD EMT 140 plug-in is the ability to choose between three different plates, modeled after three original vintage units. Plate A and Plate B use the original EMT electronics and were modeled after plates that had intentionally not been tuned for some time. This characteristic helps create a response with its own sonic identity. Plate C, on the other hand, offers a wider frequency response and uses refurbished Martech electronics, producing a more open reverb with greater presence and brightness.
The availability of three models allows you to choose different plate reverb textures depending on the source and the role the reverb is meant to play within the mix. The distinct characteristics of the three plates let you transition from sounds with a more pronounced vintage character to a more open and brilliant response, while maintaining the behavior of the modeled hardware units as a reference.
In addition to modeling the original hardware, the Universal Audio EMT 140 provides controls designed to expand the reverb’s capabilities within a modern production. Damping and Filter let you adjust the character of the plate reverb, while Balance, Width, and Modulation introduce features available specifically within the plug-in.
The Balance control can be used to more precisely define the character of the reverb, for example on a snare drum. Width lets you control the width of the effect, which is also useful on sources such as strings. The Modulation function, on the other hand, adds movement to the reverb and can be used, for example, to achieve greater brilliance and depth on a lead vocal.
The EMT 140 is one of the most recognizable plate reverbs in recording history. The Universal Audio version lets you harness the character of this processor directly within your production environment, bringing the atmosphere and presence typical of plate reverb to your mixes. Thanks to three different modeled plates and the additional controls available in the plug-in, the UAD EMT 140 can be used on a wide range of sources and adapted to different mixing needs.
