Grp Synthesizer V22

Full analog 22-band vocoder with dedicated High Pass filter on main output

The GRP V22 is a full analog 22-band vocoder with a dedicated High Pass filter on the main output and analysis and synthesis section always in the analog domain, all housed in an independent cabinet with wood panels.

The story of the vocoder is unique and particular, just like the sound that comes from it. Its origins date back to the end of the 1930s, when for military purposes Bell Labs experimented with a telecommunications coding and encryption system that analyzed in detail the fundamental elements of the human voice, to then return a new voice. ‘synthesized’ electronically. During World War II the United States military used this system to encode audio messages which were then decoded upon reception. In the following decades, this technology was also tested for artistic musical applications, with a particular preference for those ‘robotic’ vocal articulations which soon found ample space in film, television and record productions. Some of the main artists who have used this powerful tool are undoubtedly Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, Dr. Dre, Kraftwerk, Daft Punk and many others.
