PMC Studio London stars in Dolby Atmos remix of Seal II

Alex McArthur's work on Seal II earns him the Visions of Sound Award 2025, an award dedicated to the best immersive productions, with a focus on Dolby Atmos releases in Blu-ray format.

An achievement that highlights not only the quality of the mix, but also the central role of a reference listening environment such as PMC Studio London, increasingly recognized internationally for Dolby Atmos production and mixing.

A production team of excellence for Seal II

An established producer and mix engineer in the indie and alternative rock scene, Alex McArthur worked closely with Phil Millross, assistant mix engineer at PMC. The project took place under the supervision of two historical figures associated with the original 1994 release: producer Trevor Horn and engineer Tim Weidner.

This work represents a natural evolution of the path already begun in PMC Studio London, where in 2022 Weidner himself had overseen the Dolby Atmos remix of Seal's first self-titled album, just as the format was beginning to establish itself in the industry.

From original mix to Dolby Atmos: balancing fidelity and innovation

With Seal II, the goal was to preserve the soul of the original recordings while expanding them into an immersive, coherent, three-dimensional sound dimension.

"The goal was to stay true to the original mixes, but bring them into the language of Atmos," McArthur explains. The result is a wide and detailed soundstage, capable of filling the space while maintaining purposeful creative interventions that respect the source material.

The role of PMC monitoring in immersive mixing

A key element of the process was the PMC monitoring system installed at PMC Studio London, consisting of PMC MB3 XBD Active and Ci Series loudspeakers, a configuration considered a global reference standard for music mixing in Dolby Atmos.

The precision, transparency and ability to translate every sonic detail allowed the team to critically compare the original mixes with the new immersive versions while keeping the character of the album intact.

"This setup made the differences between the mixes immediately apparent, helping us make informed decisions," McArthur points out.

Phil Millross also highlights the value of the experience: "Working on an album of this level was incredible. Hearing the original tracks take on new life in Atmos shows how powerful this format is, especially when supported by a high-level listening environment like PMC."

Seal II: a 1994 classic in a new sonic dimension

Originally released in 1994, Seal II includes the famous Kiss from a Rose. The new 30th anniversary edition offers a box set with two CDs and Blu-ray, enhanced by 10 previously unreleased tracks.

The Blu-ray includes both the high-resolution stereo version of the album and the new Dolby Atmos mix made at PMC Studio London.

PMC and the future of immersive music

The Dolby Atmos version of Seal II is available on Blu-ray and major streaming platforms, including Apple Music and Tidal.

This project confirms how PMC monitoring systems are now essential tools for those working in the world of immersive audio, providing a reliable, accurate and musical reference for Dolby Atmos productions of the highest standard.
