British studio monitors with ATL™ technology: the reference at the BBC, Metropolis and hundreds of recording, mastering and post-production studios worldwide.
PMC — Professional Monitor Company — was founded in 1991 in England by Peter Thomas, then an engineer at the BBC Music Studios in Maida Vale, and Adrian Loader, an engineer at FWO Bauch. They had a single goal: to build the most honest studio monitor possible. Not the most spectacular on first listen, but the most truthful — one that reveals every flaw, every quality and every mix decision without adding colour or removing information. Their first model, the BB5, was installed at the BBC Maida Vale Studios, where it is still in use today. Every PMC loudspeaker is designed and hand-assembled in the UK and validated with both instrument measurements and reference listening: technology doesn't replace the expert ear, it supports it.
The technical heart of PMC is ATL™ technology (Advanced Transmission Line), a way of loading the woofer that is profoundly different from conventional bass reflex. Inside the cabinet runs a folded line — several metres long in the reference models — that absorbs the driver's parasitic resonances and returns deep, controlled, musically accurate bass. Together with the Laminair™ vents, which reduce airflow turbulence, ATL™ lets the larger models reach below 25 Hz without the typical reflex colouration, with a phase coherence that translates into precise, stable stereo imaging. It's why a compact PMC monitor delivers low-frequency extension and control that speakers of the same size simply can't match.
Today PMC speakers are a reference in the world's leading mastering, broadcast and film post-production studios. From the BBC Maida Vale Studios to Metropolis Mastering in London, from Stevie Wonder's Wonderland studio to the classical recordings of Deutsche Grammophon, through to historic labels such as Decca and Harmonia Mundi: this isn't a marketing endorsement, but the result of decades of trust earned in the field, where a wrong mix means redoing a master or delaying a soundtrack. As recognition of its contribution to excellence in audio production, PMC is one of very few companies in the world to have received an Emmy® Award. It is also a widespread choice in film and television scoring, where monitoring has to translate accurately on any playback system.
The PMC Studio Monitor range covers every professional need. The Result6 and PMC6 are the references for demanding home and project studios: compact, yet with low-frequency extension well beyond their class. The PMC 6-2 and PMC 8-2 are 3-way monitors for mid-size control rooms that want a linear response and main-monitor scale, with an immediate upgrade path to PMC XBD systems: twin-cabinet configurations that extend headroom and bass down to 25 Hz by adding the dedicated sub module. For the control rooms of large studios there are the PMC 10 main monitors and the full-range XBD configurations. Every model shares the same sonic signature and is hand-assembled in the UK.
For immersive monitoring and custom install, PMC offers the Ci series: speakers that mount on-wall, on the ceiling or in-wall, ideal as surround and height channels in Dolby Atmos systems. The PMC Ci30 is the most compact, perfect for height and surround; the PMC Ci45 adds image depth, extension and dynamics; the PMC Ci65, with its second long-throw woofer, delivers greater headroom and bass for medium-to-large rooms; the PMC Ci140 is the full-range solution of the line. Thanks to PMC's signature tonal consistency, the Ci models integrate seamlessly with the rest of the range to build scalable stereo or immersive systems, from 5.1.4 to 9.1.6.
Milk Audio Store is the official authorized PMC Speakers distributor for Italy. Every PMC product can be auditioned in person in our Dolby Atmos Demo Room, an acoustically controlled environment compliant with Dolby Atmos Music standards, where we have built a 7.1.4 system using PMC 6-2, the PMC 8-2 SUB subwoofers (L and R), PMC Ci65 and PMC Ci45, driven by the PMC P750-8 amplifier with DSP and Dante input. For stereo work you can also audition the PMC 10 main monitor pair. Book a free appointment and receive personalized advice to design the right monitoring for your studio, from stereo to immersive.
