Dual 12-bit digital drum module with analog EQ output
ALM Busy Circuits Tyso Daiko is a dual-voice, 12-bit digital wavetable drum module with full voltage control and an output path featuring analog EQ. It carries on the legacy of the Dinky, one of ALM’s most beloved percussion modules, and preserves its playful spirit while adding much finer control, new features, and new wavetables. The result is an expressive and versatile drum module, capable of ranging from deep kicks and resonant toms to metallic and noisy percussion sounds.
The two voices are activated and routed independently, but they share pitch, envelope, and other parameters of the wavetable oscillator with frequency sweep. What changes is the output processing, and this is precisely where the Daiko finds its dual personality.
The first voice passes through a fully analog, voltage-controlled tilt EQ, which emphasizes either the high or low frequencies with a single adjustment. You can shift the balance of the sound from the body to the attack, or modulate it over time for constantly shifting grooves. The external mix input also lets you route another source from your system through the same tilt EQ.
The second channel passes through a digital wavefolder that progressively adds timbral complexity, eventually reaching noise. It’s the fastest way to transition from a clean hit to snare, hi-hat, and industrial percussion—all from the same source.
At the heart of the Tyso Daiko is an oscillator with frequency sweep, a 1V/oct input for pitch tracking, 11 continuously morphing wavetables, and the ability for self-FM. The attack and release envelopes shape the dynamics of the hit, while the 12-bit resolution delivers that digital grit characteristic of the roughest drum machines.
Both voices respond independently to the accent input, and the first voice can be cut off via the choke input—useful for simulating open and closed hi-hats or for creating tighter patterns. The Surface control precisely adjusts additional transients: more punch, a pronounced click, or a slow, soft attack.
Every parameter of the Daiko is voltage-controllable, including the V/oct input. This makes it an ideal instrument to patch with sequencers, LFOs, and random generators, allowing you to achieve an extremely wide range of sounds and rhythms that change with every beat. A module designed for those who want to play percussion at home, not just program it.
