The Doepfer A-124 is a 12dB multimode filter that echoes the scheme of the legendary EDP Wasp analog synthesizer, famous for its unusual design and "dirty" sound. This Eurorack module exploits digital inverters as analog operational amplifiers, generating distortion and irregular behavior that give the sound a distinctive personality.
The module offers a dedicated band-pass output and a combined low/high/notch output controlled via a mix knob. When the knob is in the center position, you get a notch response; moving it to the left or right favors low-pass or high-pass, respectively. Unlike other Doepfer filters, the A-124 does not go into self-oscillation.
Functionally, the A-124 is similar to the A-106-5 module. However, the sonic character is completely different, with the A-124 more oriented toward aggressive and distorted timbres. Differences also include the layout of the controls and the type of attenuator on the second CV input.
