Rupert Neve RNDI-8

Direct Box with Neve transformer with 8 channels

The RNDI-8 consists of eight independent channels of Active Transformer Direct Interface (RNDI) in a single rack space. RND-8 allows you to enhance the signal of electric guitars and basses, synthesizers, keyboards, piezoelectric pickups or any other source of similar level. The class A discrete circuit topology is classic Rupert Neve, with exceptional sonic performance and extremely natural sound from 5Hz up to well beyond 90kHz.

Each channel can handle input levels up to +21dBu (+31dBu with pad engaged), the transformer-coupled low-impedance output handles long runs with minimal signal loss, and the chassis’ rugged steel construction is designed for a stage and studio life.

Transformer + Discrete FET: The best of both worlds

The RNDI-8’s distinctive tone comes from custom-designed transformers and discrete FET Class-A input amplifiers. The carefully engineered union of these two elements is key to the RNDI-8’s unique precision, tone and response The RNDI-8’s eight custom transformers provide isolation and add harmonics and dimension music to the sound.

The transformer-balanced low-impedance outputs excel at driving long runs of cable, and performance is consistent regardless of connected equipment. This is important for both live and studio environments where the unamplified signal can travel up to 30 meters before reaching an amplifier. The RNDI-8’s discrete FET and Class-A input amplifiers are 48V phantom powered and create a high input impedance of over 2M Ohms, ensuring consistent performance over a wide variety of tools.

The Class-A design eliminates crossover distortion that could otherwise add to the signal and introduce unwanted higher order odd harmonics. With RNDI-8, the harmonic content comes from the octave (second order) and the fifth above the octave (third order) from the root.

These musically relevant harmonics, present in minute quantities, enhance the richness of the original signal and provide a distinctly musical response. Additionally, the RNDI-8’s unobtrusive design means there are no integrated circuits or digital components to cause adverse effects on tone.

Giant headroom, massive bandwidth

The RNDI-8 has a unique bandwidth, with a frequency response that extends from 5Hz up to 90kHz. However, the measures are only part of the equation: by coupling this extended bandwidth with the improvement of the output transformer’s harmonics, an absolutely thunderous low-end emerges, which adds a sensation of unmatched depth.

All of this is done without compromising the midrange richness or high-frequency brilliance that characterizes your instrument. The maximum input level is a whopping +21 dBu, making the RNDI-8 capable of handling not only instruments but also professional line-level sources such as interfaces and drum machines.
With the addition of a -10dB pad, this rises to +31dBu, more than enough for even the most powerful DJ mixers. This makes the RNDI-8 incredibly versatile, capable of enhancing the sound of almost any instrument or connected source.

Two distinct Gound Lift options

Most direct interfaces include a ground lift switch. The RNDI-8 includes this “standard” capability via eight individual “Pin 1 Isolate” switches on the rear panel. Activating this button usually eliminates the most common sources of hum in the signal path. However, the RNDI-8 also includes eight ground lift buttons on the front panel that separate each channel’s circuit ground from chassis ground, providing another useful option for detecting and eliminating unwanted ground hum.

Specifications

Revolutionary direct tone

When discrete Class A amplifiers meet Rupert’s custom transformers, magic happens. The RNDI-8 contains the unique components and design knowledge that make it worthy of the Rupert Neve name.

Huge headroom

The maximum input level is a massive +21dBu, making the RNDI-8 capable of handling not only instruments, but also professional line-level sources such as interfaces and drum machines. With the addition of a -10dBc pad, this rises to +31dBu, more than enough for even the highest output DJ mixers.

Robust steel chassis

The rugged 1U steel chassis features an industrial-grade powder coat finish and is built to withstand the rigors of life on the road. The included bolt-on rack lugs are reversible, allowing for multiple mounting options.

For all sources

The RNDI-8 performs with immense consistency across a wide variety of sources, thanks to its discrete 2M Ohm FET input and huge head amp, providing superb tone for guitars, synths, basses, acoustic instruments , keyboards, and even professional line-level instruments.

Driving longer lines

The low impedance transformer coupled output is capable of driving long lines with unmatched high frequency performance.

1/4 THRU outputs

THRU outputs can be used to feed amplifier inputs.

Grounding options

There are pin 1 isolation switches on the rear panel to resolve any grounding issues, as well as ground lift switches on the front panel to isolate each channel’s circuit ground from chassis ground.

Phantom power

Each of the RNDI-8’s eight channels is powered with standard 48V phantom power. Power is indicated by blue LEDs on the front panel, one per channel.
