ADSR/DADSR CV Dual-Envelope Generator for the Warthog System
The Adamsynths Dual VC ENV is the envelope module for the Warthog system: it combines an ADSR generator and a DADSR generator—both voltage-controlled—into a single panel. With two independent envelopes, you can control filter and amplitude in parallel, or dedicate one to timbre modulation and the other to dynamics, giving shape and movement to every voice in your patch.
Each generator operates in either GATED or TRIGGERED mode—a choice that determines how the envelope responds to your playing style, whether legato or staccato.
In GATED mode, the envelope remains active as long as the gate signal is held, and when playing legato, it is not retriggered: notes flow seamlessly together, ideal for expressive monophonic lines and singing leads. In TRIGGERED mode, the envelope restarts with each new note, regardless of the gate’s state, ensuring consistently defined attacks on bass lines, sequences, and rhythmic parts.
On both oscillators, you can choose between linear and exponential curves: the former offer smooth, predictable variations, while the latter provide a more natural and punchy response, particularly effective on VCAs and filters. Each envelope has separate GATE and TRIG inputs, which can also be connected to each other to simplify patching.
The Attack, Decay, and Release times are adjustable from 2 ms to 10 seconds, a range that spans from the sharpest, most percussive transients to the slow evolutions of pads and drones. The Sustain level covers the entire range from 0 to 10 V.
The second envelope is of the DADSR type: its start can be delayed by 0 to 2 seconds relative to the gate. This is the ideal solution for introducing modulations that kick in after the note’s attack, such as a delayed filter opening or a vibrato that only occurs on sustained notes.
The first envelope has a standard 0–10 V output, while the second envelope’s output can be switched between 0–10 V and ±5 V, which is useful for bipolar modulations of pitch, panning, or waveshaping. Both envelopes also offer an inverted output, to create mirror-image movements or to counteract one parameter while another opens.
The module features two independent, assignable CV inputs, which you can map to envelope parameters via the HIDDEN PARAMETERS menu. For each input, you can choose Attack, Decay, Decay, and Release; Sustain; Release; or the output level of ENV1 or ENV2 as the destination. This allows the timing and intensity of the envelopes to vary based on velocity, a sequencer, or an LFO, resulting in a dynamic and ever-evolving interpretation of your patches.
