LFO Sync Sample & Hold Glide VCA Modulation Module for Warthog
Adamsynths Modulation Tools is the modulation hub of the Warthog system: a module designed to generate and process control signals, combining a Sync LFO, a white noise generator, a Sample & Hold, a VC Glide, and a VCA & Inverter circuit that can also be used as a Ring Modulator. The sections are already internally connected and work in close integration, so you can immediately achieve complex modulations without a single cable. When you want more freedom, simply plug a jack into the front connectors to bypass the internal connections and use each section independently.
The Sync LFO simultaneously generates two waveforms—triangular (TRI) and square (SQR)—available on separate outputs, plus a third output with a selectable waveform. The frequency is adjustable from 0.05 Hz to 50 Hz: from slow movements that breathe life into pads and filters to rapid modulations for trills, vibrato, and tremolo.
The triangular waveform can be continuously morphed from a descending sawtooth (SAW) to an ascending ramp (RAMP), passing through all intermediate symmetries. The pulse width of the square wave is also adjustable, allowing for rhythmic modulations with varying ratios between the high and low phases.
The RESET and SYNC inputs allow you to reset and sync the LFO to an external clock or to the beat of your sequence. The CV input can be assigned to the waveform, the LFO’s frequency, or its divider, paving the way for second-level modulations that change character over time.
The Sync LFO output is internally connected to the VCA & Inverter input, allowing you to adjust the modulation depth—even via voltage—such as from an envelope or an expression pedal. The same circuit can operate in Ring Modulator mode, which is useful for multiplying two signals together to achieve complex modulations or metallic, inharmonic timbres.
The Sync LFO also features a SYNC output, whose frequency can match that of the LFO or be a multiple or fraction thereof. This output drives the TRIG input of the Sample & Hold, whose behavior can be configured via the hidden parameters menu. The analog white noise generator is connected directly to the Sample & Hold’s input: the result—without any cables—is the classic stream of random, stepped voltages, synchronized to the LFO and perfect for random sequences, filters that jump from one value to another, and generative textures.
The Sample & Hold output is routed to the VC Glide input, which allows you to adjust both the glide time and the amount of control voltage applied. This lets you transform the sharp jumps of the Sample & Hold into smooth, flowing movements, or use the glide on other voltages to create voltage-controlled portamento.
