The Dictator is a tube compressor designed on the basis of classic vari-mu circuits. Theoretically similar to the legendary Fairchild 670 and Gates STA-Level, as well as contemporary solutions, to provide better sound control.
The custom design of the branch circuits is simply referred to as "mu-follower." The two compressor channels can operate synchronously over the full range of the transition curve, thus allowing excellent gain reduction. The temporal operating parameters and saturation characteristics are very similar to those of the best-known tube compressors.
The Dictator is a true vari-mu compressor composed of a pair of mass-produced pentodes with exceptional quality during the Warsaw Pact in countries such as Hungary, East Germany, or Poland. The surrounding circuits of the tube amplifier use the latest technical solutions that enable the most precise parallel channel operating characteristics, helping to achieve extreme configuration conditions. For example, it can pulse on a masterbus or it can produce crisp saturation along with never-before existing transients and dirty pauses. Or it can function as a simple saturator with minimal dynamic control.
Our intention was to create a master and bus compressor for mixing, but in skilled hands the Dictator can also be used as a sound design tool. The Dictator keeps every aspect of the sound under control; it is precise but not always clean, just like all the dictators in the history books.
