Black 3109 VCF/VCA: Erica Synths' answer to the vintage Roland sound

The Black 3109 VCF/VCA from Erica Synths is a module that combines a low-pass filter and voltage-controlled amplifier, built around the AS3109 integrated amplifier-a modern version of the IR3109 used in vintage Roland synthesizers such as the Jupiter, Juno and SH-101 series. The goal is to reproduce the iconic sonic character of these instruments while improving on their limitations.

Improved performance with modern functions

Among the improvements introduced, Erica Synths included a compensation system for volume loss when increasing resonance-a known flaw of IR3109-based filters-and added an internal VCA, perfect for optimizing space in small Eurorack systems. The module also supports 1V/oct tracking, making it also suitable for use as a frequency-controlled oscillator.
