Erica Synths Hexinverter Mutant Snare

The Mutant Snare is an analog snare module for Eurorack designed to achieve that "organic" character we love from classic 808-style machines, but with a level of control and patching possibilities typical of the modular. The heart of the sound comes from "bridged-T" sine wave oscillators, combined with a SNAPPY circuit with analog noise and advanced routing.

Body and timbre: TONE and SHELL PITCH

The "shell" section is based on two different frequency sine waves: with the TONE control you blend the two components, while SHELL PITCH allows you to tune one of the sine waves and precisely change the drum's pitch. Result: snare drums that are tighter and more modern or rounder and "vintage," depending on the patch.

SNAPPY with analog noise and external input

The SNAPPY section adds the typical snare drum noise component: an analog white noise generator feeds the circuit, but you can also input any external source to radically customize the attack and grain (textures, samples, oscillators, digital noise...). Plus you have SNAPPY decay voltage control to animate the groove or create dynamic variations.

HP/BP filter with resonance and normalized internal modulations.

SNAPPY passes through a selectable High-Pass or Band-Pass analog filter, with cutoff controllable via CV. When you don't connect anything to the CV cutoff, the module normalizes an internal signal (inv. SNAPPY envelope or an adjustable sine wave from the SHELL section) via attenuverter: a jumper on the back lets you choose which internal modulation is routed, so you can get musical movement right away without additional patching. The filter offers three resonance settings: classic 808, high resonance, and self-oscillation.

Reissue with Erica Synths Support.

After the closure of Hexinverter Électronique's operations (announced in September 2022), Erica Synths chose to continue the production and support of some iconic modules. Keeping the original functionality, the hardware has been redesigned in close collaboration with Hexinverter and support is guaranteed for the reissue versions.
