NUGEN Audio Halo Upmix + Stereoizer 3: Surround and Stereo Control

NUGEN Audio Halo Upmix + Stereoizer 3 is a bundle dedicated to soundstage management, from stereo expansion to the creation of multichannel surround mixes. It combines Halo Upmix, designed to transform stereo material into natural and coherent surround environments, with Stereoizer 3, dedicated to controlling the width and depth of the stereo image. The combination of these two plug-ins offers tools for music production, mixing, post-production, restoration, television, film, and sound design, with a particular focus on source integrity and the compatibility of the final result.

Halo Upmix for creating natural surround mixes up to 7.1

NUGEN Audio Halo Upmix allows you to expand stereo material into surround configurations, ranging from a natural extension of the soundstage to broader, cinematic soundscapes. The algorithms analyze the original material in real time to identify and extract the localization information present in the source. These elements are used to expand the soundstage while preserving the character of the original audio, without adding artificial reverb, chorus, or delay. Halo Upmix supports LCR, 3.1, 4.0, 4.1, 5.0, 5.1, 6.0, 6.1, 7.0, and 7.1 configurations.

Center Channel Management and Dialogue Extraction

Halo Upmix features dedicated center channel processing with selectable dialogue extraction. This feature allows for specific adjustments to the central component of the mix and is particularly useful in television production and post-production workflows. Dialogue isolation utilizes neural network-based technology, providing an additional tool for managing material intended for surround sound productions.

Exact Mode for Preserving the Downmix

Halo Upmix is designed to generate a coherent spatial image while maintaining high compatibility with the subsequent downmix. By enabling Exact Mode, the relationship between the original source, the upmixed version, and the downmix can be precisely preserved. This feature is particularly important in television repurposing workflows and in productions where different versions of the same program must coexist.

Real-Time Spatial Analysis with Halo Upmix

The plug-in includes a dedicated spatial analysis visualizer that displays the energy distribution within the generated surround sound field. The visualization uses color to identify the origin of the signal from different speakers, facilitating the analysis of situations such as the predominance of a phantom center over a hard center.

Stereoizer 3 for Expanding Stereo Width and Depth

NUGEN Audio Stereoizer 3 is a plug-in dedicated to expanding the stereo image, designed to add width and depth to mono or stereo recordings while preserving the original character of the source. It can be used to transform mono material into a wider stereo image, expand particularly narrow stereo mixes, or apply more dramatic processing to achieve wide-open effects. The processing does not require the addition of artificial reverb, chorus, or delay, helping to maintain high compatibility with mono playback.

IID, ITD, and Linear Width Algorithms

Stereoizer 3 uses techniques based on how the human ear perceives sound width. The IID (Interaural Intensity Difference), ITD (Interaural Time Difference), and Linear Width algorithms can operate independently, offering different ways to shape the stereo image. IID and ITD allow for more noticeable and dynamic adjustments, while Linear Width offers a more subtle effect and is designed to leave the central space of the mix unaffected.

Mono Compatibility with Stereoizer 3

Mono compatibility is a central feature of Stereoizer 3’s operation. The plug-in does not use artificial reverb to generate stereo expansion, thereby avoiding issues such as unwanted doubling, chorusing, or phase cancellation on the mono signal. The “Collapse Output to Mono” feature also allows you to directly control mono compatibility while working.

Stereoizer 3 for Mixing, Sound Design, and Audio Restoration

During mixing, Stereoizer 3 can be used to add width to mono recordings, expand a narrow stereo image, or target specific areas of the spectrum without altering the source’s overall balance. In post-production and restoration, it can help gently widen ambient sounds, free up central space for dialogue, and introduce greater stereo vitality to originally mono recordings.

Stereo frequency analysis from 20 Hz to 22 kHz

Stereoizer 3 includes a visualizer that shows how the stereo field deviates from the center as a function of frequency. The analysis covers a range from 20 Hz to 22 kHz and allows you to adjust the stereo image while taking frequency content into account without necessarily having to use a separate analysis plug-in.

Dolby Atmos and Optional 3D Immersive Extension

Halo Upmix can be expanded with the optional 3D Immersive Extension, which adds controls for vertical dimension and support for Dolby Atmos 7.1.2, Auro 3D 7.1.4, and Ambisonic outputs. The extension also introduces real-time analysis of vertical energy distribution and retains features such as dialogue isolation and individual output control. The 3D Immersive Extension is not included in the NUGEN Audio Halo Upmix + Stereoizer 3 bundle and is available separately.
