18 synthesis engines: from Waldorf wavetables to physical modeling

The sonic heart of the ELZ_1 PLAY Black includes 16 original Waldorf wavetables, sourced from the legendary PPG and Microwave synthesizers, as well as 32 additional slots featuring 24 expert-curated presets and support for importing Serum wavetables. Alongside the Wavetable engine are ZTRINGS, a physical modeling string engine, and SUPER OSC, a super synth with 5 detunable sub-oscillators for rich, dynamic textures.

Experimental Engines: DNA Explorer, SiGRINDER, and 8BIT Wave Memory

The exclusive DNA Explorer engine extracts and generates waveforms directly from audio, while SiGRINDER offers granular synthesis for organic and unpredictable textures. The 8BIT Wave Memory Synth family, available in six variants—Standard, Morph, FM, Warp, ADSAR, and Time—lets you modify, morph, and transform waveforms in real time, for 8-bit sound design with virtually endless possibilities.

The 4-track looper allows for recording, playback, and overdubbing with the simple touch of a button, ideal for building layered tracks in real time. The 128-step sequencer, with variable step length and adjustable micro-timing, provides the rhythmic control needed for complex, evolving patterns, while the built-in STK Drummer section offers 5 drum kits and 100 ready-to-use rhythm patterns.

ELZ_1 PLAY Black includes 48 effects divided into four modules—Drive/Mod, Modulation, Delay/Reverb, and Reverb/Master—including Grain FX, Overdrive, Tape Echo, Phaser, Ring Modulator, and reverbs ranging from Room and Hall to Infinity and Mirage settings, offering a sonic palette that spans from vintage to the broadest ambient sounds.

The 37-key velocity-sensitive keyboard and stereo speakers built into the side panels make the ELZ_1 PLAY Black ready to use anywhere, without the need for additional equipment. USB audio and MIDI support, along with dedicated MIDI and Sync inputs/outputs, allows for immediate integration with the rest of your setup, while the SD card slot lets you save looper recordings and update the firmware.
