Erica Synths EDU DIY Hi-Hat is a DIY module in Eurorack format that recreates the character of the iconic analog hi-hats inspired by the Roland TR-808. Reproducing the sound of a cymbal with analog circuits is a real challenge: it is not just noise, but also not a pure harmonic signal. It was precisely this imperfection that made drum machines such as the TR-606 and TR-808 legendary in the history of electronic music.
Following that sonic philosophy, this module offers synthesized hi-hats with a metallic, granular and punchy timbre, perfect for techno, electro, house and modern electronic productions. It is ideal for both classic patterns and more advanced rhythmic experimentation within modular systems.
The module provides manual Tune, Decay, and Tone controls to sculpt the character of hi-hats from closed and edgy to longer and sizzling. The Tune and Decay parameters are modulated via CV, greatly expanding the expressive possibilities in dynamic patches. The Accent input allows you to add rhythmic emphasis, essential for more articulate and realistic grooves.
Developed by Erica Synths and Moritz Klein, the mki x es.EDU series was created with the goal of teaching analog synthesizer circuit design even to those starting from scratch. This kit is designed not just to be assembled, but to guide you step by step in understanding the circuit and design choices that determine the final sound.
Each kit includes an extended manual that can be downloaded separately. Due to the DIY nature of the product, no technical support is provided in case of assembly-related malfunctions.
