Erica Synths EDU DIY VCA is a simple but extremely efficient dual VCA module designed for Eurorack systems and an integral part of the mki x es.EDU educational series. The VCA (Voltage Controlled Amplifier) is one of the fundamental building blocks of modular synthesis, essential for controlling the amplitude of audio signals and handling modulations.
With DC-coupled inputs, the module can be used for both audio and control signals (CV), making it a versatile tool for dynamic patching, complex modulations and creative routing.
The inputs of the second VCA are normalized to the first, allowing an audio signal to be split across both channels or both VCAs to be controlled with a single CV signal. This configuration offers great operational flexibility, both for classical applications (envelope-controlled amplification) and for more experimental uses.
Developed by Erica Synths in collaboration with Moritz Klein, the mki x es.EDU series is designed to teach analog synthesizer circuit design from scratch. The 60-page assembly manual guides the user step by step, explaining not only how to assemble the module, but also the electronic principles that determine its operation.
The kits are designed to be affordable, but require soldering and manual assembly. No technical support is provided for any problems arising from DIY assembly.
