TipTop Audio Buchla 248t MARF: advanced CV control for Eurorack

The TipTop Audio Buchla 248t MARF (Multiple Arbitrary Function Generator) is one of the most iconic and powerful modules ever designed for generating control voltages. Born in the 1970s in the Buchla 200 system, it now returns in Eurorack format thanks to a collaboration with Buchla, retaining the original character but with fundamental improvements for modern use.

Sequencer, envelope and much more: an extremely versatile module

At first glance it might look like a 16-step sequencer, but the MARF goes far beyond that. Each stage can be individually programmed to behave in completely different ways: discrete steps, continuous glide between values, quantization over 12 divisions, or assignment to specific voltage ranges.

Programming by stage and total control

Each parameter can be defined independently for each of the 16 stages, allowing the creation of complex sequences, articulated envelopes or advanced portamento processes. The result is an extremely creative module, ideal for advanced sound design and complex modular systems.

Advanced group and sequence management

One of MARF's most powerful features is the ability to organize stages into subgroups. Start, Stop, Sustain, First and Last points can be defined, creating custom loops such as pitch sets or dynamic envelope shapes.

Modular interaction and external control

Stages can be addressed both internally and via external signals, allowing deep integration with other Eurorack modules. This opens up advanced possibilities for modulation and interaction between multiple sources.

Dual output section and time control

Despite its 16 stages, the 248t has two independent output sections, allowing different points in the sequence to be read simultaneously. The Time Multiplier control, which can be managed either manually or via CV, allows for time scaling from 0.5x to 4x, offering further flexibility.

Comprehensive outputs and ART integration

Available outputs include stored voltages, triggered ramps, time-proportional values, and assignable pulses. In addition, support for the Tiptop ART protocol allows seamless integration with compatible modules, such as the 259t, for pitch management and polyphonic applications.

A Buchla classic reinvented for the modern modular

The Buchla 248t MARF still remains one of the most advanced tools for CV generation and manipulation. Thanks to TipTop Audio, this historic module returns accessible in Eurorack format, ready to become the creative heart of any modular system.
