DI Box features 2 high-quality channels with Lehle transformers
The AEA TDI DUO is a professional two-channel active DI box designed to offer the same transparency, clarity, and reliability as the AEA TDI in a more versatile stereo configuration. Each channel features a Lehle step-down transformer, an independent input, a THRU output, a -20 dB attenuator, and a dedicated ground lift.
Thanks to the proprietary circuit designed by Fred Forssell, the AEA TDI DUO preserves the instrument’s original character while minimizing noise, distortion, interference, and signal loss—even when using particularly long cables.
The two channels of the TDI DUO can be used to connect a stereo instrument, such as a synthesizer, keyboard, or stereo pedalboard, or to simultaneously record two different mono instruments.
Each channel features independent controls and connections, allowing you to adjust the level, grounding, and signal routing separately based on the connected source.
Separate control of the left and right channels allows you to fully preserve the instrument’s stereo image. Alternatively, the two inputs can be used to simultaneously capture two mono sources, offering great flexibility both in the studio and live.
With an input impedance of 10 MΩ, the AEA TDI DUO is an ideal solution for passive instruments, acoustic guitars with piezo pickups, basses, amplified string instruments, and other sources with delicate signals.
The high impedance prevents loading of the pickup and preserves brightness, dynamics, transient response, and high-frequency extension. The balanced output signal remains strong and stable, minimizing sound degradation caused by long cable runs.
Each channel uses a selected Lehle step-down transformer to provide extremely linear signal transfer. The result is natural, full-range reproduction free of unwanted coloration.
The -20 dB pad on each channel allows you to connect not only passive instruments but also high-level sources such as active instruments, synthesizers, drum machines, keyboards, and outputs from other electronic devices.
The two independent Ground Lifts help break any ground loops and reduce hum or noise, making the TDI DUO particularly reliable in live setups and studios with complex routing.
The AEA TDI DUO is powered by +48V phantom power directly from the microphone inputs of your mixer, preamp, or audio interface. No external power supplies or batteries are required.
The passive THRU outputs, connected in parallel to their respective inputs, allow you to send the original signal to amplifiers, effects, pedalboards, or other devices while simultaneously maintaining a clean DI track.
This configuration is ideal for reamping, for simultaneously recording dry and processed signals, and for managing stereo chains with effects.
The two channels can be integrated into more complex routing setups. For example, you can route the THRU output of the first channel to a pedalboard and the THRU output of the second channel to an amplifier, while simultaneously recording the balanced direct signals.
Despite its two-channel configuration, the AEA TDI DUO maintains a compact size and rugged construction, making it suitable for both stage and studio use. The threaded holes on the bottom allow up to three units to be installed in a single 1U rack space using a compatible mounting bracket.
Each unit is manufactured, assembled, and tested at AEA’s facilities in Pasadena, California.
