Eurorack-format DJ Crossfader - 2 channels
The ALM Busy Circuits MFD is a two-channel stereo crossfader designed for DJ-style live mixing and jamming within a Eurorack system. Two mono or stereo inputs are mixed down to a single stereo output, with either direct or voltage-controlled fade control. The Cue controls let you preview one of the two inputs before it enters the mix, just as you would on a mixing console. The result is a natural and intuitive way to manage transitions between patterns, scenes, and sections of your modular live set.
The MFD uses an approximately constant-power crossfade, so the transition from one source to another is smooth, with no volume dips in the middle of the crossfade. The circuit is designed to deliver very low noise and crosstalk, keeping the sources clean even when one of them is completely muted.
The Cue switches and dedicated output allow for direct monitoring of each stereo input before it enters the mix. Combined with ALM’s HPO for headphone monitoring, this lets you prepare the next source while the audience listens to the current one—just like in a DJ set.
Voltage-controlled crossfading and DC coupling open up applications far beyond simple mixing. You can use the MFD as a high-quality stereo VCA, or as a mix processor for stereo audio or CV signals.
By driving the crossfade with an LFO, you can achieve stereo panning effects and transitions between two sources, while at audio frequencies, the module becomes a modulation tool with a distinctive timbre. You can also use it as a voltage-controlled effects send to determine at any given moment how much signal to send to reverbs or delays.
